Biography
Alec Rowley was born in London, England, and trained at the Royal Academy of Music. He held the position of Organist at St John’s, Richmond; St. Alban’s, Teddington; and St. Margaret’s, Westminster. He taught at Trinity College of Music. He helped manage the Royal Philharmonic Society and was a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music. He died in Shepperton while playing tennis at home. Trinity College established the Alec Rowley Memorial Prize. His compositions include concertos, organ symphonies, orchestral works, keyboard pieces, a Nativity play, songs and choral pieces. He wrote many pieces were educational or designed for amateur performers.
