Allor che ignuda d'herb' et fior la terra,
perche da noi s'e dilungato il Sole
ond'è sparit'ogni leggiadra vista
la qual facea di se vag'ogni prato
questa gentil et giovinetta rosa
più sempr' e verd'e sec' ha fogli e fiori.

Now that the earth is stripped of plants and flowers
because the sun has left us
and every pleasant sight has vanished
that might have graced every field,
this sweet young rose is more verdant than ever,
bearing leaves and blossoms.
