Mercy is an act of love.
It soothes the harshness of justice
With the balm of compassion.
It is a gift, a kindness, a choice,
A pure virtue, an expression of good.

For the essence of mercy is forgiveness
And with forgiveness, the opportunity of restoration.
The contempt of reprisal is swept aside
By the chance of redemption.

Mercy enfolds the qualities of compassion,
Gentleness and forbearance that
Man attributes to God.

God and Man;
God – the source of boundless Love.
Man – self-obsessed and indifferent to that Love.
This self-fullness of Man is the sin that
Holds him apart from God.

The God of Justice renders to each his due.
But the God of Mercy tempers Justice with Love –
A Love so great as to reconcile,
Through the death of His Son,
Mankind once more to Himself.
