General Information

Title: Missa Escoutez tous gentilz
Composer: Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina
Lyricist:

Number of voices: 8vv   Voicing: AATTTTBB
Genre: SacredMass

Language: Latin
Instruments: A cappella

First published:
Description: This mass is included in a manuscript of c.1570, with a close but not contemporaneous attribution (c.1650). This attribution is marked as doubtful in lists of Palestrina's complete works. In the current editor's opinion the provenance is weak, but the work is of good quality. Enjoy the piece for what it is: an highly competent, albeit perhaps orphan, 8 part re-working of Janequin's widely popular chanson "La Bataille" [de Marignan].
