This is presumably Samuel Chapple of Ashburton (1775-1833), although the tune is not found in any of his own three known published collections of church music. The original order of staves is alto, tenor, treble, bass, with the alto part notated an octave above sounding pitch. Two texts from the Collection of Hymns for the Use of the People Called Methodists are indicated for use with this tune: hymn 438 (set here), and hymn 489 ('How good and pleasant 'tis to see, when brethren cordially agree').
