Se per estremo ardore
morir potesse un core
saria ben arso il mio,
fra tant’ incendio rio;
ma come salamandra nel mio foco
vivo per la mia donna in festa e’n gioco,
e se m’avvien tal’hora
che per dolcezza i’ mora,
mercè d’Amor, risorgo qual Fenice
sol per viver ardendo ogn’hor felice.

If a heart could die
of an extreme fire,
mine would most definitely burn,
guilty, in many fires;
but I live like a salamander for my lady
in my fire in celebration and play,
and if I were at this moment
to die of sweetness,
thanks to Love, I'd return like the Phoenix
to live each moment burning with happiness.
