Your user page

Hello there. I have just added some information to your user page, the key element being the category which adds your page to Category:CPDL Editors. Feel free to ask any questions that you have either on the forum or on my talk page. Many thanks for the new editions and I look forward to more! Regards --Bobnotts talk 06:17, 2 October 2007 (PDT)

Thanks for that. I'm now crowned as Editor ! Very proud of that. Will do my best to provide right hand made scores. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Claude T (talkcontribs) on 09:12, 6 October 2007.

Your translations

Hello there. Thank you very much for getting involved with CPDL: welcome! Please do continue to provide translations of texts; may I suggest that you first check Category:Text pages to see if there is already a translation of the text in question? In the cases of texts which have been set many times by composers, a separate text page is created and all texts and translations grouped there. In the case of your translation of Beatus vir by Monteverdi, there is already a page, Psalm 112 for the text. I have moved your translation to that page and provided a link from Beatus vir (Claudio Monteverdi) to Psalm 112. Thanks again and if you have any questions, please feel free to post on the forums or leave a message on my talk page. --Bobnotts talk 03:14, 4 October 2007 (PDT)

Not sure it's the spot to answer. I was aware of not translating same text in two pages. Just forgot that Beatus Vir was Psalm 112 for Monteverdi, in his Vespers, mix religious and secular texts. Thank you for your perfect english : it shows your high level of knowledge and for us "foreigners" it's easier to understand. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Claude T (talkcontribs) on 09:30, 6 October 2007.

Broken links for Missa 4or vocum 2s tonus

Hello. I just prepended the Template:broken to the PDF and MIDI links for Missa 4or vocum 2s tonus (Joan Cererols), since these links do not seem to work. I hope you will be able to put in the correct links. Also, I moved the score page to have its composer as part of the page title. Thank you very much. -- Chucktalk Giffen 15:13, 19 October 2007 (PDT)

Thank you. Just corrected a few moment after.. -- Claude. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Claude T (talkcontribs) on 16:49, 20 October 2007.

Copyright work

Hi Claude. I've just deleted Salve Regina (Alfred Desenclos) because the work is subject to copyright in the USA and Europe (at least), as the composer died in 1971. Please refer to this page for details. I strongly recommend that you remove the files from the external server which you have uploaded them to and delete/destroy any personal copies. If you have written permission from the publishers and/or composer's estate to create a new edition of his work, please email me these details and I will restore the page. We welcome your other contributions, however, so please don't feel that we don't appreciate your intentions, but it is illegal to share copyright material. Regards --Bobnotts talk 03:14, 27 October 2007 (PDT)

It's Ok. I had that in mind yesterday. I just wanted this morning to give the community the opportunity to know of the work of this composer. Claude 09:50, 27 October 2007 (PDT)

César Franck request

Hello, I noticed that you've contributed some motets of César Franck (which are missing from all the libraries near San Francisco!) and wonder if you might soon be editing Domine Deus in simplicitate, the offertory for the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica (Nov. 9)? I had a peek at this at the New York library a few years ago but foolishly didn't make a copy; all that is available here are the Carus re-arangements for SATB... Regards, Richard Mix 08:39, 12 May 2008 (PDT)

Hi, Richard. I'm sorry, not having that work at this moment. I'm looking around to find it. Please have a look at that page. Claude 23:03, 19 May 2008 (PDT)

Updating links for your editions

Hi Claude. Thanks for uploading your editions to the CPDL server - it is definitely preferable to have files stored on the CPDL server to prevent future problems with broken links, etc. Just one thing - could you make sure that you change the link on the composer page as well as on the score page? I've just fixed the links on Anton Bruckner and Claudio Monteverdi for Pange lingua (Anton Bruckner) and O Mirtillo (Claudio Monteverdi) and updated the PDF and MIDI links for the complete score of Missa 4or vocum 2s tonus (Joan Cererols) which you had updated only on the composer page. Again, thanks for these editions and for doing the legwork yourself! If you have any problems, just let me know. --Bobnotts talk 20:13, 17 June 2008 (PDT)

Sorry, Bob. I'll pay more attention in the future. Thanks for your efficiency.Claude 18:11, 18 June 2008 (PDT)

Grant us thy peace

Hi Claude, thank you for all your work with the requests! I just don't think it's a good idea to include links in them for paying sites. When someone decides to make a score request at CPDL, it's probably because they want a free alternative to the many paying sites available. Linking to other free resources is ok for me, although it would be even better to create a work page at CPDL linking to this external resource instead. Cordialement, —Carlos Email.gif 10:51, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi Carlos. I've corrected that page. Just notice that the paying site linked is the only one appearing on the CPDL main page, saying "who give CPDL a minimum of 8% of every purchase made on their site when linked from here" ;-).Claude 22:51, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
Hi Claude! Yes, I noticed which site is was, but Raf Ornes made this agreement with SheetMusicPlus a long time ago and we're not sure whether it's still valid, and most important, if any payment is being done. But even if the agreement is still valid, it's necessary to use a specially formatted link that includes CPDL's ID if we want CPDL to receive its share in the sell. Regards, —Carlos Email.gif 06:47, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Delete request

Hi Claude. I've just deleted the request for a non choral score that you noted (Request:Italian Polka (Sergei Rachmaninoff)) Regards --Bobnotts talk 21:12, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Using <poem>

Hi Claude. Thanks for adding French texts and using the new "poem" tag. Please remember to close the tag by typing </poem> at the end! Thanks --Bobnotts talk 12:49, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Oops, didn't notice that ! Thanks, Claude 13:04, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
Hi Claude, in the last move to yet another server, the Poem extension remained disabled for a while, but it's available again, ok? —Carlos Email.gif 04:10, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

More French text requests

Hi Claude. Thanks again for all the French and Latin texts you've been adding - having the text of a work available really improves CPDL as a resource for singers and choir directors. Since you've exhausted the contents of ChoralWiki:French text requests, you could have a look through Category:Text requests to find French works which need their text adding, if you wish to continue your excellent work. --Bobnotts talk 16:22, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, Bob, for that. It's a good idea. I think I could begin with Mozart's 'Alma Dei creatoris' I sung some day. But just have a look at the page you mentioned, to see more than a dozen of these "multiworks" pages, with title beginning with a number. - Claude 17:32, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
Hey Claude, yesterday I thought that there were just two "French text requests" - and I did them, even though I don't speak french, and the "Passion selon St. Jean" took much time (I hope, everything is allright!). And now I see that there are more than 30 (!) new "French text requests" - really depressing!! ;-))) Thanks for your work, go on! I assume that you like completing CPDL, don't you? So do I! I wish you a niche weekend from Germany (Bad Nauheim is north of Frankfurt), Martin.
Hallo, Martin, I thank you very much for having arranged the last French text I left 'to do' (because it was a long text). When I went to the Text requests page, I saw French titles not appearing on the French text request page, asked explanation to Robert Nottingham, and changed the template so it revealed the 31 works you saw. There will be no more increasing of the list. Again, thank you for your work, I'm not so good at German or Latin to do so in other languages. 'Bis bald'. -Claude 12:45, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Thank you!

F clef neume.gif The F Clef neume award
  for comprehensive contributions of texts and translations

is hereby awarded to Claude Tallet for his excellent and reliable contributions --Bobnotts talk 11:12, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Wow !! Very proud of that ! Thanks you all, folks. Yes, it's a hard work (even if it seems only a copy/paste) to choose the good setting for the texts, even in old French and let it comprehensible. I thought to suggest an award among the contributors but wasn't willing to talk about it for the reason that it should be for myself (I'm not this kind of guy :-). Anyway, what is this "neume" I don't know about ? -Claude 12:35, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Adding links to text pages

Hi Claude. Thank you for your continued work in adding texts and translations of works here at CPDL. If I might make one request - when you're adding links to text pages, please use Template:LnkTxt only when the list of settings on the text page is automatically generated. In all other cases, please use Template:LinkText. You can see which text pages you should use Template:LnkTxt for here. For the most part, you should use Template:LinkText. Many thanks! --Bobnotts talk 22:38, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Well, so, there are only 22 texts that can be reached by LinkTxt template. Why these and no other ? Also, when I add a LnkText template, is it possible to generate automatically the works/composer entry in the settings list for that text ?Claude 08:55, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
Using Template:LnkTxt and automated settings lists was an experiment by Carlos or Chuck (I can't remember who started it) which has subsequently been abandoned to some degree or other because it doesn't allow for the level of flexibility that we usually want on such text pages. For example, on Psalm 150 we have a list of settings then a list of information about each setting - which verses it sets, what language it's in, etc. Basically, it's a big mess... --Bobnotts talk 14:02, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
Hi Claude, let me try to explain it: The initial idea to use template:LnkTxt to generate an automated listing for text pages was mine, and a couple of pages were created in this new format as an experiment. Chuck decided to try it on a Psalm page, but psalm text pages do have their peculiarities and so it was decided not to use LnkTxt on them. BUT using it for all other works is still ok. So, if you see 3 or more works which share exactly the same text (or with very slight differences), you are encoraged to create a text page for them. The procedure is simple:
  1. Replace on one of the works page {{NoText}} by {{LnkTxt|<text page title>|<composer surname>}}.
  2. When you save the page, the <text page title> will appear as a red link. Click on it to create this new text page.
  3. On the page that opens, paste the following and click Save: {{subst:ChoralWiki:Text template}}
  4. Edit the page again and voilà!, you have a new text page properly formatted, just waiting for your text and translations.
  5. As soon as you click on Preview, the first work to which you applied LnkTxt on step 1 should already appear on the settings list.
If you have any doubt, just ask me; if you simply prefer not to use this tool, feel free not to! :) —Carlos Email.gif 18:17, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
Hi, Carlos, I tried your way of doing. It seems to work well : eleven works with same text and translation on that new text page. Some Bytes less on the server. But the works seem to be weirdly sorted (historical linking to the text page?). -Claude 15:32, 18 December 2008 (UTC) You just have to use the third parameter, Claude (writing to himself ;-) - Claude 07:40, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
Oh, yes Claude! You just missed the sort key by composer surname ;)
There's just one other point that I wanted to discuss with you: The Puer natus text has two main versions, one completely in Latin and one macarronic in Latin/German. We must decide how to deal with these two versions. Shall they stay on the same page? If I'm not mistaken, the macarronic text is used only by Praetorius. Carlos 14:31, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
Just have a look at the 3 scores which are on the same discussed page: On Christian Mondrup's score, there is German text that wasn't with the Latin one, on Marco Cipoo's, I doesn't see any word in German! On the Abel di Marco edition, I doesn't see any word at all, nor any note because I'm unable to see any score of this editor (neither Mac nor Window, neither IE nor Firefox)! If you can, just explain me how! Yesterday, I just let the Latin words that were here and added a link to the general common text.
Hi Claude, I've added a PDF/MIDI for the Abel di Marco edition (you need a plugin installed to see his page). As you noticed, the other two editions had different music or text and were moved to independent pages, ok! Carlos 18:31, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
Carlos, the problem is that I've not been able to get the necessary plugin: it's an old (2002) SmartMusicViewer.class in Java impossible to install (neither on PC -Xp or Vista- nor Mac) because CodaMusic disappeared and all the links point to the successive FinaleViewer, which works perfectly well to see Finale files you posess on your disk but doesn't show the Abel diMarco's files that stay on his site (right click is there disabled). The whole thing is that among a thousand works in Latin on CPDL claiming "No text" there are about 500 in this case. So, thank you for having showed one score tonight. There are only 499 left to do ;-)

Sorry to have to harp on about this, Claude, but I'm not sure that you've quite got the message, judging by these edits: (1) (2) (3) Since you've been using Template:LnkTxt on those pages when you should be using Template:LinkText. I appreciate that it's a very confusing situation. Normally, I'd just correct the mistakes and not bother contacting the contributor but since you do so much on CPDL, it's worth me trying to explain it, I think! I'm not sure how else to explain it, other than what I said above -

  • If the text page that you're linking to is listed here, use {{LnkTxt|Page title}}
  • If the text page that you're linking to isn't listed here, use {{LinkText|Page title}} and add a link to the score page on the text (as you have been doing)

I hope that's clear - if not, I'm afraid I don't know how else to explain it! Thanks a lot --Bobnotts talk 11:39, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

I also have been finding this confusing; and have been collecting notes to try to understanding it. Thanks for the latest rephrasing and, Claude, you are not alone. --Vaarky 03:06, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi Claude, just an update: Now you can check in this category whenever you need to know if an existing Text page asks for template LnkTxt or LinkText. If the page is listed in this category, please use LnkTxt, ok? Thanks! —Carlos Email.gif 07:18, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

Luc Jacobs' scores

Hi Claude, I happened to notice that Luc Jacobs had been active on cpdl today, so I left a message on his talk page (in Dutch) alerting him to the missing link on this page. There was actually another one of his scores missing, but since it is in Dutch, you probably hadn't noticed. I'll let you know if and when he replies. Still going mighty strong with those texts, I see. I hope to be able to join in from next week onward. Keep it up! joachim 18:18, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi again. Luc has replied - apparently both links have been repaired. Cordially, joachim 07:00, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
Thank you, Joachim. I ran into the score and... the text seems to be in English! Claude 07:10, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Requesting mergers

Hi Claude. Thanks for suggesting mergers, this page for example. These little tweaks to the site definitely need doing. The only thing is that if you just write a message on the talk page, the admins might miss your request. Would you mind putting Template:Merge at the top of the score page(s)? That way, the page is added to Category:Merge requests so it's easier to find. To use the merge template, just type: {{merge|other page name}} Thanks! --Bobnotts talk 12:17, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Editing pages

Hi Claude. Just a friendly note - I've noticed that you often edit parts of pages separately, such as correcting score icons then adding the text of the work in a separate edit. I just wanted to remind you that you can edit the whole page by clicking on the "edit" button at the top of the page, rather than the "edit" links next to each section. Of course, there's nothing to stop you from editing each section of the page in turn, but I thought you might find it quicker to edit the whole page at once. We're all grateful, as always, for your continued contributions to CPDL. --Bobnotts talk 21:21, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

A translation request

Hi Claude. I have a favour to ask. Since a lot of the contributions to CPDL are sent through the add works form and many contributors have been submitting the form several times for the same edition, we have a number of duplicate CPDL catalogue numbers being created, a situation which isn't ideal by my reckoning. Some time ago I added the following text to the page to try to get people to not make duplicate submissions:

"PLEASE DO NOT COMPLETE THE "ADD WORKS" FORM MORE THAN ONCE FOR THE SAME EDITION. Once you have submitted the form, a unique CPDL number is generated which becomes obsolete if the form is run a second time for the same edition. Volunteers will receive the form which you submitted and post it on the wiki in due course - please be patient. If you forgot to include some information in the form the first time you submitted it, please email addscore (at) cpdl.org with the details rather than submitting the form again. Thank you."

However, some contributors have continued to do so, I suspect mostly because of the language barrier. I wonder if you would mind translating this text into French (and any other languages that you are able to translate to) and I will add this translation to the page as well. I'm posting a similar message on Joachim and Max's talk pages so we should have Italian, Dutch and French covered. Any additional languages would be a bonus. I hope that you're able to help - thanks! --Bobnotts talk 17:09, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi, Rob, here is the paragraph to cut and paste:
Merci.
About the question: I submitted about 40 works, some with many separate movements. The problem happened only one time (for the most recent submission). The fact is that I didn't see the results immediately, as it has always happened before and thought that the first click had been inefficient. - Claude 17:33, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for that, Claude. I've added the translation to the page. --Bobnotts talk 10:30, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Happy Birthday!

A belated Happy Birthday to you, Claude. I'm really impressed by all your diligent and exhaustive work with Texts and Translations. CPDL is so much the better with your efforts. -- Chucktalk Giffen 17:08, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Wow! Warmful thanks to you! (How do they know my birthday date? ;-) I achieved the Latin, then the Italian texts, beginning the Spanish at this time and have a great hope: that contributors will add the text on the add-work form! -Claude 17:24, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
Bonjour Claude. Autant de ma part! Sorry to have been of so little assistance lately, but I'm being flooded with work, so cpdl editing has had to wait. Still, you're doing a really impressive job here. Keep it up! (And should you ever want to start a petition for a text field in the Add Work-form: count me in! :)) joachim 17:35, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
Apparently, the Forums has your birthday stored and it posted a congratulations at the bottom of the Index page on your birthday (yesterday) - and I happened to see it!! - Chucktalk Giffen 18:14, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

User merge?

Bonjour Claude. I remember that during a period of time you used to login with User:Claude Tallet instead. Would you like to have that account united with the one currently in use (User:Claude T)? The advantage is that all contributions you've made would be listed under a single user account instead of divided bewteen the two of them. Please take it as just a suggestion, you may continue with the two accounts if you prefer. Cordialement, —Carlos Email.gif 18:25, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Yes, Carlos, proceed, unite! - Claude 07:22, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Hi Claude, the user merge was completed! :) —Carlos Email.gif 05:36, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

The unstoppable man!

Wow Claude, I can hardly believe in my eyes :) You've just finished with the Spanish texts and is already adding the German ones! What an invaluable contribution to all CPDL users! Quelle énergie, tu es vraiment incroyable! :) —Carlos Email.gif 19:20, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, Carlos. You're also doing a good job, speaking of quantity and of quality. I think my boss and/or my wife will let me proceed, and hope somebody will begin the job with the English texts before I achieve the German ones. ;-) - Claude 09:04, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Congratulations on becoming an admin!

Hi Claude,

With overwhelming support of other admins, I have just made you a Sysop (admin) here at ChoralWiki. I PM'd you to that effect at the Forums. We are all very grateful for you extensive contributions to CPDL, especially with texts and translations. Hoepfully, with sysop priveleges, you will find some of your editing tasks easier, as well. Congratulations and welcome! -- Chucktalk Giffen 18:06, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Thank you very much, Chuck and friends. I'm proud of that. My growing knowledge of a large number of scores gives me some experience but not in the matter of moderating the forums in many different languages. Also, I would prefer to appear with my user name (Claude_T) rather than to be the only one on the forums that spreads his entire Name-Surname identity. I think Carlos recently merged the two accounts into the one with the shorter name. At this moment, I struggle with some German Vespers with tons of text. Can you indicate me the columns template, if it exists, or the way to create three colums of approximately equal number of lines? Among the new possibilities that are now offered to me as an admin, I think to use the page delete function after having renamed a page, deleting the wrong old one. Is that correct? Ah, also, to put part of my talk page on an archive talk page it's just as easy as create a new page isn't it? Claude 19:13, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
Chiming in to add my thank you for all your excellent work, Claude. --Vaarky 20:14, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
And may I also add my congratulations, Claude! There's a Wikipedia page on how to create tables which is what you'd need to do to input text in columns. Also, please do delete the "redirect" pages that are left behind when you move a page, but only delete them if nothing but dynamic pages link to the redirect (see under "What links here" on the toolbox on the left of every page). If you're unsure, just ask :-) --Bobnotts talk 23:33, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
Hi Claude! Congratulations and be very welcome to the board of administrators! :)
As for using tables, the link Rob suggests is an excellent guide. If you want something very simple to start with, below are a few examples. —Carlos Email.gif 01:01, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
Bonjour Claude. Toutes mes félicitations - une promotion bien méritée! joachim 16:39, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
Congratulations, Claude! I've just changed your username at the forums to Claude_T, as requested. --Choralia 19:37, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Deleting pages

Hi Claude. I've noticed you've already used your new admin powers to delete Ein fest Burg (various) after you moved the page. That's fine, but please remember to check if there are any pages that link to a page before deleting it (click on "What links here" under the toolbox menu on the left). If there are any pages which still link to the page you want to delete (in this case, Various) which are not automatically updated, you need to correct the link(s) on those pages before or shortly after you delete the page. Many thanks --Bobnotts talk 15:39, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

Ihr lieben Kinder freuet euch (Joachim a Burgk)

With regards to your comment, Claude, I think you must be looking at the wrong PDF - the one I opened has plenty of text in it. --Bobnotts talk 23:17, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Ok Bob, I've corrected that; you were right, as for the point above and... as always ;-) - Claude 07:30, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

bac-a-sable

Pardon Claude, I forgot to include a couple of lines to the statistics you're using at bac-a-sable, and they are bringing inaccurate values (because not all pages that have a {{pdf}} template are really score pages). Please add the following lines to your queries:

namespace=
category=Sacred music|Secular music
allowcachedresults=true

The first line excludes all talk pages and pages outside the main namespace. The second line guarantees that only works pages will be included (not composer pages, for instance). The last line is just to avoid an overload on the server, but the results won't be too exact, because they will use cached data. Regards, —Carlos Email.gif 13:47, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for this correction. The numbers are less, now, but the proportions stay the same. - Claude 14:03, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Seemingly broken links on external site

Hi Claude. I noticed you added the text for O sing unto the Lord a new song (William Lawes) but I'm unable to download the eps files on the external site for CPDL #509. Were you successful? --Bobnotts talk 13:12, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

Yes, successful; it's not a broken link: on the external site, you will find 7 files, one for each page of the work. The problem you got is that they are EPS files. EPS is for 'Encapsulated PostScript'. I opened them with an image editor. If someone wants a PDF from this point, he needs a PDF generator. So it's not a broken link but, for our users, it is nearly impossible to get the score. (So, one of my tricks is now no more secret ;-)) By the way, I'll be singing next week far away from the Internet, so don't worry if the text-transcribing tasks are down for some days. Claude 13:48, 7 April 2009 (UTC)
The files just wouldn't download for me before but now they do... anyway, I've replaced the text you added to that page with a link to Psalm 149. I'll also be away singing next week so CPDL will be very quiet! --Bobnotts talk 14:27, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

Request for update to score submission guide

Hi Claude. I have made some alterations to the score submission guide that you kindly translated into French. Would you be so good as to make the necessary changes to your translation to accommodate my additions? Thanks in advance. --Bobnotts talk 12:18, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi, Bob. Ok, it's done. I had also a few obsolete lines just before these changes, with a link to Rafael. I remember that was changed monthes before in the English text but it seems it was not in the French one. À bientôt, Claude 13:31, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

Text variants

Hi Claude. Looking at Psalm 23 (John Valentine), I understand why you have added the text to the page as well as a link to Psalm 23 but I think that minor variants such as this should be noted on the text page rather than on the score page. The only significant variations are 3rd & 4th lines of the first stanza and 3rd & 4th lines of the fourth stanza. What do you think? --Bobnotts talk 11:55, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

In many cases I've been unable to compare the text in the score and the text of the psalm because the last one was inexistent (only Latin). In other cases the text was *very* different. I've ever had a look at the n+1 and n-1 psalm for the question of the number you know. Feel free to add the source of text, question in which I've a very poor knowledge and to delete my text if it is near the reference you know. My work isn't useless: you can easily see the complete and exact text of the score. Claude 15:01, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

DEFAULTSORT

Hi Claude! It's not the linebreak after the DEFAULTSORT that makes the difference: as Rob and I found out recently, in fact you need to add the default sort only after the page is moved or else it won't work, for some obscure reason. If you find other pages where you have added it before the move, just open the page and save it again without adding a new line and the effect will be the same. Revert of your edit to Mass (John Merbecke)

Hi Claude. I reverted your edit to the above page because the exact text set to music does not appear on those text pages. I have now reverted your second edit to the page. --Bobnotts talk 19:03, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, Bob. Is that correct now I've added the text? BTW, I noticed on the home page about 7000 texts upon 10000 works. With 500 works characterized by a language but without text, where are the 2500 left? Hymn settings are works without text but there are not 2000. Any thoughts about that? I'm afraid they are as we knew with French-text works that where not characterized by a language some monthes ago (about 30 upon 200) - Claude 20:31, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
Hi Claude and Rob. I was having a look at the text Claude just added to this Mass and could see no difference from the traditional Mass text found in pages Kyrie, Sanctus and Agnus Dei (in English translations), except for the fact that the latter uses a modern traslation, while the former uses an old one. I'd suggest that the texts Claude added be moved to the pages cited above and that all English masses be also addressed using the MassText template. What do you think? —Carlos Email.gif 21:18, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
Claude: the 2500 pages not categorised as having a text added and not hymn settings or other works without text, these will have either LinkText or LnkTxt in place of Text or NoText (primarily Masses). I occasionally come across score pages which have the text added but which don't use the text template. I correct them, but we'll only know about them if we stumble upon them. As for the score page that I mentioned above, I agree with Carlos that the text should be included on the appropriate Mass pages as alternative English texts. --Bobnotts talk 14:29, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
Point 1: 2500 without text: Bingo, Bob, you're right. As you can now see at my sandbox, there are 1712 LinkText and 254 LnkTxt templates pages. Good news for me! - Point 2: Another English translation for masses: please proceed, for you know I'm not an expert in that matter. - I now can return to creating scores (not scanning ;-) for CPDL. I prefer. Claude 15:05, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
Claude, I guess you'll like this new list: Score pages without Text templates. In it were brought to light all those score pages that were trying to hide from you ;) Have fun! —Carlos Email.gif 07:15, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Ha, Ha! Very interesting indeed. I had seen it some hours ago. Yes, some work to go. Many are work pages without score for which it would be good to create the 'Texts may be found on the individual work pages.' template. So, a playground for others admin too ;-) - Claude 10:35, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
That was a good idea! I made some changes to template NoText in order to display such message, try it and say what you think: {{NoText|See}}. —Carlos Email.gif 19:30, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

{{NoText|See}}

Hi Claude, if I may ask you, could you please wait a bit more before using template NoText this way. I just remembered that this template adds the works to the category "Text requests" and this is no good. I still need to see with Rob, Chuck and the others what they think: wether we use it this way and change the template, or if we create a new template especifically for these situations. Don't worry about the ones you already added, they can be replaced later if necessary. Merci! —Carlos Email.gif 07:17, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Ok, I stop immediately. In my opinion, this new template should be under 'NoText' as now, but counting for "nothing to do" as for wordless works. Claude 07:22, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
How about something like NoText (meaning there is no text to be supplied because the underlay is wordless) and TextMissing (meaning text needs to be added)? -- Chucktalk Giffen 12:31, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
Chuck, but then we'd have to change hundreds of pages that already use NoText. Wouldn't it be easier to create a new template for the new situation that arose? It just has to display the same text as {{NoText|See}} is doing now (named perhaps as {{SeeText}}?). The other alternative is to keep this format and just change the template so as not to include the work in category "Text requests" when it receives a parameter. —Carlos Email.gif 16:18, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
I vote for the last suggestion: {{SeeText|param}} where 'param' could be one of the two between 'movements' for a work or 'works' for a collection. What is possible for the wordless works? Surely they have 'no text' but nothing is 'to be added'. Claude 17:28, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
{{SeeText|param}} is a good idea, sometimes it is indeed necessary to make such distinction; —Carlos Email.gif 20:44, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
Apparently, I was confused about just what the problem about dual use is. I thought the we were needing a template (or modification of an existing one) for situations in which a work has a "wordless" text underlay (such choral/vocal works do indeed exist!), but if such a template is indeed needed now or sometime in the future, it would be better to have such a template named something like Textless or Wordless. I was even thinking that such a template or variant might be employed for hymn settings (harmonized hymn tunes without text underlay). As for the suggestion made by Carlos, I think either the two templates Text (with the "see" parameter option) or SeeText (with its two options) make good sense. I'm sorry if I needlessly spread my own confusion to this. -- Chucktalk Giffen 23:29, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Revert of your edit to Christ lag in Todesbanden (Johann Pachelbel)

Hi Claude. I've reverted your edit to Christ lag in Todesbanden (Johann Pachelbel) because the accompaniment template used under the "general information" title on score pages should be the actual accompaniment that the composer scored the work for. On the basis that the edition you've produced is a vocal score (or at least it seems so to me), the accompaniment template used cannot be "acap" because there must be some kind of accompaniment. Do you know what that accompaniment is? If so, that's the template we should use under "general information". --Bobnotts talk 20:54, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

Knowing that: 1. "2 violins, 2 violas, etc" is not a template 2. KbdRed is a template but doesn't represent the *actual* accompaniment even if it is used for thousand of works 3. I will know about the actual accompaniment of this work within two days… what should I write tuesday as the good template for the actual accompaniment?
1. "2 violins, 2 violas, etc" is not a template - you're right, but "StrAcc" does exist and it would cover the instruments you mentioned. 2. Again, yes, that template doesn't represent the actual accompaniment. It wasn't designed for that purpose - it was never though that is what it should do. To be honest, I'm not sure I know what you mean... one of us has got the wrong end of the stick here. 3. If you will know what the actual accompaniment of the work is in a few days, there's no problem with leaving the field blank till then. --Bobnotts talk 16:53, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Creating internal links

Hi Claude. I've just made changes to Deuteromelia (Thomas Ravenscroft) to properly format the links you created to the appropriate score pages. Please note that in order to format an internal link, you should enclose the title of the wiki page in double square brackets. You only need to use the full URL of the page if you are creating an external link. The exception to this rule is when linking to score files (PDF, MIDI, source files, etc.) where the full URL must be used to display the icon correctly. --Bobnotts talk 15:30, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

 Help

Hi, Claude--thanks very much for posting the Delibes (and for all your great other efforts too)! Looking forward to learning this one.

Hello Claude, many thanks for adding the text! Regards from --Christophero Manco 23:15, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

DPL queries

Hi Claude! If I understood it well, these are the queries you asked for; you just need to tweak with the parameters uses= and notuses= in order to find the results you want. Note that the parameter notuses must appear only once per query, or else it won't work properly.

  • 1. List of works without PDF and NET templates:
<dpl>
namespace =
category = Sacred music|Secular music
notuses = Template:pdf|Template:net
columns = 2
allowcachedresults = true
</dpl>
  • 2. List of works with PDF template missing a MID template:
<dpl>
namespace =
category = Sacred music|Secular music
uses = Template:pdf
notuses = Template:mid
columns = 2
allowcachedresults = true
</dpl>
  • 3. List of works in English that use the template NoText (which categorizes works into category "Text requests"); new additions comes last in the list:
<dpl>
category = Works in English
category = Text requests
ordermethod = lastedit
allowcachedresults = true
</dpl>

In the last example, note that I used category = Text requests instead of uses = Template:NoText; this is because the parameter category has much less impact on the server. Regards, —Carlos Email.gif 14:30, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Well done, Carlos, the three queries work perfectly well and you elaborate them within a few minutes! You thought to add noNET after the noPDF clause in the first query. I just added noExtPDF as well and found some strange pages I was looking for: with link to a PDF without using the template, for example. The second query: PDFYes but NoMIDI gives me too much work for the moment. The third query showed a missing English text I hadn't seen. So, thanks, again. Claude 15:12, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Translations you've been adding

Hi Claude. You've been adding a number of translations for Eva Toller's works by the composer herself. Have you sought her permission to post her translations on ChoralWiki? --Bobnotts talk 16:32, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

No, I'm sorry. I thought that indicating on each translation her name (or perhaps I've forgotten one time?) and the year was sufficient. - Claude 16:39, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
All translations are copyright. Attribution is not an exemption from copyright law. Unless the translator has released the translation under a license compatible with the CPDL license, we cannot host it here. If you write a translation yourself and contribute it, of course that's fine. In this situation, the translations by Eva Toller added by you will have to be removed. --Bobnotts talk 16:45, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for removing those translations. --Bobnotts talk 11:10, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
Bob, I've removed them yesterday. Do you mean "Thanks for having removed" or "Thanks to remove soon, in the future"? Did I forget something? - Claude 12:10, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
No, no I was referring to the removals you've already done. It's OK, I'm just a little behind the times! You did forget one or two but I've removed these now. --Bobnotts talk 12:51, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
Ok, Bob I've seen I forgot two of them. Thanks for your vigilance. - Claude 13:00, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

Page translations

Hi Claude, thank you for your effort in translating the Main page and other pages into French, but you didn't do it the correct way. Translated pages were developed as sub-pages of their English counterpart (to simplify maintenance), and as so they should not have any code inside, but only the translated numbered strings. I've already corrected the ChoralWiki:Multi-Category Search/fr, soon I'll do the same in the others. Regards, —Carlos Email.gif 12:47, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Ok, Carlos, sorry. I created only one another page, the MainPage/fr, without such error. About the main page, did you notice that the second line in Seasonal music can't be translated (as well as the dates in the New works list). How to translate the site notice about the dispatching? Regards, - Claude 08:39, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

Old French texts

Hi Claude,

You've made the text for Au traveil suis (Johannes Ockeghem) easier to understand. I wonder, though, if it wouldn't be better keep the advertised "original text", either as original with French 'translation', or better with footnotes or brackets:

Je suis tout seur [sûr] que de deul crèveraient. (3) deuil

I dont know if cpdl supports some equivalent of wikipedia's <footnote></footnote><footnotes> which whould be more elegant... Richard Mix 04:08, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Hi, Richard. Thank you for revealing us such pieces of music. I generally transcribe texts word for word 'as is' (See my transcriptions in Latvian, Slovenian, Nahuatl, Mochica, Quenya and even invented languages!). But we have to keep in mind that 1. the 'original' text remains on the score itself 2. I have not seen the manuscript (which was perhaps not by the composer himself) - I'm curious to see if the word written is 'traveil' or 'travail'. 3. Too much words should have to receive a foot note: Je suis tout seur [sûr] que de deul [deuil] creveroient [crèveraient]. 4. Anybody wanting to modify my transcriptions has my approbation in advance ;-) - Claude 08:55, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Laboravi clamans (Jean-Philippe Rameau)

Hi Claude,

Were you able to read the pdf file here on your machine? All I can see are stems without noteheads... Richard Mix 09:17, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Hi, Richard. Yes, I can see notes and text. Maybe the musical font used in the PDF isn't present in your computer (and isn't included in the PDF). Perhaps could you save the PDF file and open it on another machine. Claude 13:25, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
