two different Sampson composers?

  • Posted by: Vaarky 22:58, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
 Help

Thanks for the great editions you've contributed. Just in case you are interested, there is a discussion at Talk:Royal_11_E._xi about what is probably two different composers named Sampson, and how best to identify them on CPDL. I wanted to bring it to your attention in case you want to provide any input.

Hi Vaarky, I'm actually contributing the scores on behalf of André. I'll talk to him about it. Cordially, joachim 06:53, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

Ardo (Bartolomeo Spighi da Prato)

Heya André,

I provided the requested translation for the file above and noticed many issues with the original text. I replaced it entirely, as it did not reproduce Marino's poetry, and would invite you to have a look at it with your edition in hand -- perhaps a review of the PDF may be good to include all the corrected words. Cheers!

Kapsberger

Hi André, I noticed that you have uploaded many works by this composer, thanks for that! I've just created a composer page for him, under his German name Johannes Hieronymus Kapsberger. Do you think we should use the Italianized form "Giovanni Girolamo Kapsperger" instead? —Carlos (talk) 22:48, 18 October 2012 (CDT)

Libro terzo di villanelle

Hi André, I took the liberty to reorganize Kapsberger's composer page, and created pages for his publications. However, it seems that the list of works in the Libro terzo di villanelle is incomplete, as I can't find the correct position of "Alma mia", "Come lasciar" and "Spiega". I took the lists from this site. Can you please help me complete/correct this listing? Thanks. —Carlos (talk) 02:06, 23 December 2012 (CST)

Hi Carlos, I published the scores for André (partially under his login by mistake) and I put them in publication order since he insisted on it. I suppose it doesn't really matter. As for the composer's name, André seems to favour the Italian spelling over the Latin one, but I don't suppose he'll lose any sleep over it. Regards, Jkelecom (talk)
Hi again, Carlos. We've been verifying the three "missing" pieces and are as puzzled as you are, since André uses the facsimiles mentioned on the Dutch site. We'll try and come up with an answer asap. Regards, Jkelecom (talk)

Willaert: Quanto più m'arde

Hello André,

I just gave a look to your newly uploaded score to CPDL: Willaert Quanto più m'arde, and I found some lyrics errors in the Bass.

Bar 1: The first word is wrong, Suanto instead of Quanto
Bar 26: l'el, where the other 4 voices have m'el (shouldn't it be m'e'l ?)
Bars 34-35 The word "e" should be separated from ghiaccio, and "ghiaccio'l mio ghiac-" should be shifted one note to the right.
Bar 45: ,e should be ne
Bars 76-80 all parts: me ne sfide (or should it be ne me sfide?) is variously rendered ne me sfide, ne ma sfide

SortWorks

Andre, as someone who has contributed a lot to the site over the years, you may have noticed that we've recently been making significant changes to the composer pages. The principal aim of this is to automate, as far as possible, the process of adding new works to those pages. Another change is that we are removing the file links from the composer pages. The reason for this is simple; we have found by experience that, if people upload new version of files, while these are automatically added to the works page, they need to be manually altered on the composer page. Most people forget to do this, so we end up with mismatched files.

One side benefit is that, in the past, people sometimes forgot to add their editions to the composer page and the new template picks up all those missing editions, as well as works where the composer is indicated solely as arranger. (My record so far for any composer is 21 missing works, including, shamefully, one of my own editions!) All this is still very much work in progress, particularly for the more complex composer pages, but I would be interested for any feedback you may have, whether positive or negative. Hi James, I'm the one adding scores for André. I've been adding the "new" template for his most recent new composers, but I've shrunk away from adding it on existing pages - I'm just not confident enough in Wiki mumbo jumbo. As far as the rationale is concerned, I agree with the implementation. Regards, Jkelecom (talk) 16:56, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for that. I don't think you need to worry about Andre's existing composer pages, since Claude and I have been going through almost all the composer pages making the relevant changes. It's not easily applicable to some of the more complex pages but, although I am not a native wiki speaker like Claude and Max, I've learned a few useful phrases which seem to be sufficient to get by! I've asked various people who are either big contributors or newish contributors for feedback and, once I've collated it all, we can have a discussion about the points raised. Incidentally, with another 22 additions to the site, Andre will have overtaken me as the editor with the most contributions. Please don't feel any need to rush!Jamesgibb (talk) 18:01, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

Antoine Gardane

Hi André,

I moved to Gardano (per WP, IMSLP, NG) before considering the number of workpages with Gardane. I'll now wait a bit in case there's an argument to be made for the composer to be better known under one form than the other. Cheers, Richard Mix (talk) 22:12, 22 January 2020 (UTC)
