General Information

Title: Breathe soft ye winds
Composer: William Paxton
Lyricist: Ambrose Philips

Number of voices: 3vv   Voicing: TTB

Genre: SecularGlee

Language: English
Instruments: A cappella

First published: c.1775

Description: From "A Collection of Glees and Catches", London, c.1775 N.B. "Breathe soft ye winds" is often but erroneously attributed to Stephen Paxton, William's brother, also a 'cellist and writer of glees. The source of the confusion arises from the inclusion of six of William's glees in "A collection of glees and catches", the remainder (and sizeable majority) of which is devoted to Stephen's compositions.
