Si Cupido, doux et rebelle
Avait débandé ses deux yeux,

Je crois qu'amoureux serait d'elle.

Vénus, la Déesse immortelle,
Tu as fait mon cœur bien heureux,
De l'avoir fait être amoureux
D'une si noble Damoiselle.

English translation

I am loved by the most beautiful
Who is alive under the heavens:
Against all who are false & envious
I maintain: she really is such (i.e. the most beautiful…)

If Cupid, sweet and rebellious
Had uncovered his two eyes
To see her graceful manner
I believe he would love her too.

O Venus, immortal goddess,

Ik word bemind door de allerschoonste,
die er leeft onder hemelen:
Ten overstaan van al die valse afgunstigen
houd ik vol, dat zij dat wel degelijk is.

Als Cupido, zacht en rebels
zijn twee ogen zou hebben ontbonden,
om haar gracieuze houding te zien,

Venus, onsterfelijke godin,
