Alias: John Golding

Life

Born: 1667

Died: 1719-11-07

Biography: Church composer.

The entry in Cathedral Music, Volume 2 (William Boyce) reads:

John Goldwin, (or Golding) received his Musical Education from Dr. William Child, and succeeded him as Organist of the Royal Chapel of St. George, Windsor, April the 12th, 1697. He was appointed Master of the Choristers there in 1703, and died Nov. the 7th, 1719.

His Music has a Singularity in its Modulation, uncommon, and agreeable.

Watkins Shaw in Grove says that this judgment "cannot be thought of as other than wide of the mark".
