English text
Why steal the tears adown thy cheek.
Where love and pleasure ought to reign?
The cruel cause, ah quickly speak,
And make me partner of thy pain.
That meaning face and breast of snow,
That heart to ev'ry virtue prone,
Were made to soothe another's woe,
But ne'er feel sorrows of their own.
