A glorious wind is blustering,
O come to the hills away!
Where with groaning swing
All the mad firs fling
Abroad their arms to the skurrying sky;
They would follow but they cannot,
Chain’d to the earth for aye!

But we are free to follow
Where that mad wind doth call;
It sings of the seas
When the frail barque flees
Away in fear from the treacherous squall;
When the water and the welkin
Mingle in one dark pall.

Mad wind, sad wind,
No rest for thee, no rest for me!
O bear me on thy cooling wings
To that far bourne where ever lie
Unruffled waters ’neath a perfect sky.
