Biography

Frank Edwin Ward was born in Wysox, Pennsylvania, son of author Cyrenus Osborne Ward. He attended high school in Washington, DC, and studied at the New York College of Music, Scharwenka Conservatory in Berlin, and Columbia University where he studied under Edward MacDowell. He served as University Organist at Columbia’s St. Paul’s Chapel and as Associate Professor of Music as organist and choirmaster. He also taught at the Trinity School of Church-music, and was organist and choirmaster at several churches including Temple Israel and the Protestant Episcopal Church of the Holy Trinity. He established his own school for piano, organ and theory, and was Head of Theory Department Guilmant Organ School at First Presbyterian Church, NYC. His compositions include orchestral works, chamber music, cantatas, anthems, organ pieces, songs, and part-songs.
