Talk:Bethlehem Down (Peter Warlock)

There are some problems with this edition (CPDL #12141).
1) It says there are 2 pages, but in fact there are 4.
2) The alto part in bar 3 has a mistake, there is half a beat missing - the last crotchet in the bar should be a minim I think.
3) The vertical layout of the parts is all over the place, which makes it impossible to play on a keyboard and very difficult to sing.
4) Although the composer died in 1930, the author of the words, Bruce Blunt, did not die until 1957, so the words are still in copyright (in the UK and some other places, at least).

The new edition by Phillip Matty (CPDL #76525) is a huge amount much better, although point 4) above about the words still being in copyright here in the UK still applies. One small point: the bass part in bar 9 in verse 3 should have the word "When" rather than "Where".

I agree about the copyright issue with the text, but I find it interesting that the Wikipedia page has published full text as well. Interesting about the B-flat in the bass part at the end of the third line in the original MS, where it is often sung as a C-flat these days. If no one can shed light on the text copyright issue then this page might have to be deleted. Droopop (talk) 12:41, 22 October 2023 (UTC)
