English text
The pallid face of the dying child
Beams with a lustrous light,
As the pearly gates of the better land
Are opened to his sight.
And he hears the rush of mighty wings
Descending in the air,
’Tis the Cherubim and Seraphim
Who round his couch appear:
And, “Holy, Holy, Holy Lord,”
They breathe into his ear.
They bear him up through the golden streets,
While gladsome strains out-ring,
For one more Seraph has joined the choir
To praise the Heavenly King.
There, where no pain or sorrow comes,
Where the weary are at rest,
The angel child in glory dwells
And is for ever blest:
Hallelujah, Rest thou beloved one,
Rest, Rest, Hallelujah!
