English text
I’m the dear old family clock,
And of our history will I talk,
Once, two little children gay
Passed the joyous hours in play,
With not a care, with hearts so light,
From morn till night.
Once a man and maiden fair,
Kissed each other on the stair,
My pendulum was nearly stopped,
My face into my hands I dropped,
Two old hearts still beat as one,
Though life’s journey’s nearly done,
And while they beat, I’ll tick away
from day to day.
