The owl wakes up from the ivy bush and stretching forth his legs,
With much surprise he winks his eyes and goes on counting eggs.
Fifteen, fourteen, thirteen, twelve. Eleven, ten, nine, eight, seven, and a three, two, one.
And the owl sits up in the ivy bush, and says, “Bravo!” very well done!”

The owl sits up in the ivy bush and begins to look for mice;
And he opens his eyes with a glad surprise, they will be for supper so nice!
Fourteen, thirteen, twelve, eight, sev’n, six, Five, four, three, and a two, and a one.
And the owl peeps down from the ivy bush, and says, “We will have some fun!”

The owl starts up in the ivy bush and begins to count the stars;
And he winks his eye at the moon so high and blinks at Venus and Mars.
Thirteen, twelve, eleven, ten, nine, eight, seven, six, Five, and a very great one!
And the owl claps his wings and “To-whoo,” he sings, “I think that’s very well done!”

The owl looks down from the ivy bush and he watches the falling leaves;
And he says, “Oh, dear! why, the winter is near, or else my eye deceives!”
Twelve, eleven, ten, nine, eight, seven, six, Five, four, and a three, two, one.
And the owl looks down on the falling leaves,
And cries out, “There will soon be none! To-whoo!”
