English text
A Rosebud fair to bind in my hair,
Has just been sent to me
From one who has left his childhood’s home
To sail across the sea.
Ah! yesternight by the pale moonlight
We wandered down to the rill,
And gathered the mosses with dewdrops bright
There under the lee of the hill.
The birds in the trees were fast asleep
And the flowers had closed their eyes;
Had they awoke they had seen me weep
E’er the beams of the first sunrise.
Oh! for that stroll by the silvery light
Again to the little rill;
Sweet rose recall that hour and all
Said under the lee of the hill.
